Innovation Platform Sustainable Meierij

The Innovatieplatform Duurzame Meierij (IDM) originated in 1998 as a regional organisation for the valuable cultural landscape in the region the Meierij. The organisation has been appointed by the Province of Noord-Brabant to stimulate and execute projects with finance from the European Leader+ Programme. Now the Meierij is designated as a part of the National Landscape Het Groene Woud, which offers new opportunities to fulfil the sustainable and innovative vision of the IDM.
Innovating and initiating projects are the main goals of the IDM. Most important is that the sustainability goals in the Meierij and/ or Het Groene Woud are met. The IDM guides more than sixty projects, mostly hands-on projects like recovering of local sheds, the planting of landscape elements, placing stork nests or organising community. The IDM is financed by municipalities, water boards, the Province and the European Union. Both small and large organisation work on these projects. Nature working groups use it for projects with nesting-boxes while water boards restore brooks.
Sustainability means for the IDM always combining ecological, economic and social values, not only for here and now but also for the rest of the world ad the far future. It is about preserving the earth on a global level, strengthening the regional economy in the global financial network, and enhancing regional coherence and a cultural and local identity. Like this we work towards a sustainable Meierij.
